About the Project

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

Welcome. With the spirit of Margaret Mead’s words in mind, Whale Trust has initiated a collaborative arts and education project to help connect 4th grade students in Hawaii and Alaska through humpback whales. The purpose is to help facilitate learning more about whales, each other, and this environment we share, planet earth. The idea is to explore how are we connected to one another, whether animal or human, and how together we can help heal the ocean and our earth.

Together and apart, the students will explore what whales mean to their communities, their culture and each other. Here we have created a blog for the students to ask questions of each other and of us as they make their journey into the world of whales. After the sharing and the research are complete, each of the two schools will contribute to a traveling and artistic mural that reveals their insights, discoveries and hopes for the future.

The student’s mural will be unveiled at Whale Quest Kapalua, February 13-15th, 2009 at The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua, Maui.
